Hyderabadi Kichidi




Ingredients:
1 cup rice
2 nos cardamoms
1 stick cinnamon
2 cloves
1/2 tsp blackpepper
1 tbsp ginger/garlic paste
1/2 cup masoor dal
4 tbsp oil
2 small onions
4 green chillies
1 tbsp shahi jeera
Salt to taste


Preparation:

1.Mix rice and masoor dal and wash well. Fry sliced onions till they turn golden brown. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until it turns brown& add chillies. Then add the rice mixture and blend until the entire mixture is coated with oil. Be careful not to break the rice. Add cardamom, cinnamon and jeera.
2.Cook for three minutes and pour water — at least ½ inch above the rice. Add salt according to taste. When the water starts bubbling, lower the flame and put the khichdi on dum for about 25 minutes.
3.Garnish corinder leaves before serving.
Serve khichdi with sambar, curd or any pickle.
