
Ingredients:
Rice Rawa (Biyyapu rawa) - 1/2 cup
Jeera - 1 tsp
Chana dal (Senaga pappu) - 1 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Method:
1.Soak chana dal in water for atleast 10minutes.Heat about 1tsp of oil in a saucepan and add jeera.
2.Add 1 cup of water (1: 2; Rawa: water ratio) to the pan and bring to a boil.
After the water starts boiling add salt, soaked chana dal and slowly add rawa. Stir continuously to make sure that there are no lumps.
3.Cook until the mixture comes together and looks like upma. Consistency should be neither too wet (if this is the case cook a little longer) nor too dry(add little water).
4.Let this mixture cool till it is easy to handle.Make lemon size balls of the mixture and steam them for about 10-12 minutes in a pressure cooker.
Serve hot with any chutney.
Kudumulu Recipe
Ingredients :
Rice Flour - 2 cups
Water - 1 Cup
Salt - a pinch
Filling:
Jaggery - 2 Cups
Fresh coconut (grated) - 1½ cups
Cardamom - few
Method:
1. Boil water with a pinch of salt and add rice flour to it.
2. Remove from fire and keep it closed for few minutes.
3. Heat jaggery in a saucepan with little water, add coconut and cardamom and cook till the mixture leaves the sides of the pan Take small portions of cooked rice in your pal, make a depression in the centre, fill it with the jaggery and coconut mixture and close it.
4. Steam these in a rice cooker using an idli plate/stand. you could use rice flakes and palm jaggery for the filling as a variation.
